The objective of this project is to design and implement the optical tracking control system that can track a bouncing ball. The ball will only be observed with the camera and the position and motion of the ball must be extracted form the image sequence using image processing techniques. Previous students undertaking this project successfully implemented Kalman filter for the tracking problem. The tracking algorithms must be extended to include more complex methods such as Particles Filters. The robustness of the tracking algorithm must also be improved to ensure that the ball is still being tracked while undergoing occlusion. The results of the project must be presentable as demonstration video clips.This project will run as a 4th year Electronic Engineering project during 2008.
